Divorce Month

I’m going to go ahead and be an asshole and say that January and February are good months for all of us in the online personals world. Wait a second, wait until I tell you why, and then you’ll understand why I’m an asshole.

According to eDivorcePapers.com, January is the month that sees the most divorces. It’s officially Divorce Month, and we single folk can all reap the benefits. Yes, I know, it’s probably not the greatest idea to try and snatch up the broken-hearted too quickly. We don’t want a woman who keeps referring to us by her ex-husband’s name or cries in the middle of sex or something. Often, however,  people that are divorcing have been separated for a while, or have been putting off the inevitable for so long that they are really really ready to just jump in the sack with someone else, or go on a few dates at least. Indeed, I would guess that January is also the month that sees the highest number of registrations on online dating websites.

Anyways, eDivorcepapers.com isn’t the only source that claims January is Divorce Month. Divorce Lawyer James Gross says divorce is so popular in the first month of the year that “some attorneys take the last two weeks of the year off to get ready for the rush. January does really see a lot of divorces.” And The Legal Services Commission goes further and says there is an actual D-Day, which is “the first Monday after the kids return to school.”

So why is January so divorce friendly? Could be several reasons, they say. Families with kids might decide to give their offspring one last happy holiday before calling it quits, or might realize that their marriage must be shit if they can’t even have a magical X-mas with Bobby and Sally because they despise their partner so much.

It’s also the time for personal resolutions and new starts, which could also mean ending an unhealthy union.

And damn, the holidays can be expensive, and folks might not actually even be able to pay for a split until the presents are paid for. Whatever the reason, I plan to take advantage and I suggest you do too.
